Test Preparation for X-Ray Skull (Townes View)

Pregnant women must provide information about the condition before such a test is done. If the need be, the radiation exposure can be reduced to make sure the fetus is not affected by the Townes view X-Ray test.

It is necessary for you to also remove any jewelry you may be wearing so that it does not interfere with the procedure.

Overview

The Townes View X-Ray test of the skull is painless and completely safe to view the inside of the skull. This test views the anterior exterior portion of the skull where the ray beams enter the brain from the front to the back. The image gets recorded on special X-ray film and there is a small amount of radiation that is used during the procedure.

The softer body issues that appear in the image result in the dark. This part is the muscles and the skin. The denser tissues such as the bones appear white.

It is important to note that the exposure to radiation in the Townes View X-Ray test is even less than a second. However, the overall test can last anything between 15 and 20 minutes.

After a trauma or accident, this test may be requested by the doctor to view the inside of the skull. It may also be requested to detect a tumor or cyst inside the skull.
